HWA Wildlife Consulting (HWA; formerly Hayden-Wing Associates) has been a leading provider of regulatory compliance, ecological and applied science research, and technical counsel services for oil and gas companies since 1980. HWA provides rapid, data-driven solutions to natural resource issues faced by the energy and mining industries, wildlife and land management agencies, and private organizations.
We apply cutting-edge methods, tools, and technology to provide services and products that are cost-effective, timely, and reliable. Specific areas of expertise include compliance surveys for sensitive wildlife and plant species including greater sage-grouse, raptors, mountain plover, pygmy rabbits, T&E plant and animal species, and migratory birds; assistance with federal and state oil and gas permitting; NEPA; conducting DDCT analyses for permitting in sage-grouse core habitat; preparing Avian Mitigation Plans and Avian Protection Plans; GIS and spatial analyses; wetland delineation; habitat mapping; applied research including study design, statistical analyses and predictive habitat use modeling; GPS collaring studies for collecting home range and movement data on raptors, sage-grouse and big game; rangeland health assessments; riparian, upland, and forest vegetation assessments; noxious weed surveys and management; reclamation plans, implementation, and monitoring; groundwater and soil sampling.
Our staff works extensively with private industries (oil and gas, mining, and wind energy), federal and state agencies, and private landowners on various projects across the western United States. Although based in Wyoming, HWA operates throughout a broader region that includes areas such as the Bakken, Cedar Creek Anticline, Niobrara, Piceance Basin, and Permian Basin. HWA’s dedicated professional staff holds advanced university degrees in various fields of natural resource sciences, including wildlife biology, botany, and rangeland ecology, and our experience base spans habitats and natural resource issues throughout the U.S. A particular strength of HWA involves our experience level with greater sage-grouse and raptor biology, including conducting extensive hands-on research and producing numerous scientific publications on a wide variety of subjects. We would be happy to put our expertise to work for you.
